We are here because of the hard work, dedication and forward thinking of Match and Ella Taranovich. Match worked for a local fuel company who wanted to sell off the appliance portion of their business. With a little encouragement from his wife Ella and their 14 year old son Jimmy at the time, Match decided to take the leap and agreed to take on the appliance business as long as they included the new propane portion as well. They shook hands and on April 1, 1966 Match and Ella became the proud new owners of Proctor Gas Inc.

The company wouldn’t be what it is today without Jimmy Taranovich. Jimmy took the business over from his parents in 1988 and made a lot of positive changes. It was his vision that kept Proctor Gas growing and led the company to expand to include grill, and outdoor living sales.

Judy took ownership of Proctor Gas Inc. with Jimmy in 1983. She started in collections and in 1994 as their gas hearth and Stove business grew they decided to open a small gift shop selling items that complemented the hearth products and outdoor living segment of the business. She did all the buying and set up for the shop. After Jimmy’s passing, with so much to learn and limited time the hearth and gift shop have been set aside for the time being. Judy has fully immersed herself into the Propane side of the business and, like her late husband has dedicated herself to serving the customer and the industry. She sits on the Vermont Fuel Dealers board, the Propane Gas association of New England executive board and is the Vermont State Director for the National Propane Gas Association.

A native Vermonter, Lisa brings 33 years' experience in the trucking industry having worked for a local family owned company. When the Company closed due to retirement Lisa was offered other jobs but she wanted to stay with a small family owned business, their loss was truly our gain. Lisa joined our team on 12/1/15 and we couldn’t be more pleased. Except for having to familiarize herself with Propane her experience in A/P, A/R, tax prep, human resources and employee befits, along with DOT and compliance made her transition seamless. At least on our end!!

Ron came to work as a propane delivery driver in June of 2017. I broke my own rules of never hiring friends or family as his Step Mother worked for us at the time. Emily has since retired and Ron has proven to be an excellent addition to the team. After a couple years delivering and knowing my service manager would be retiring soon, we brought Ron in to take his place. It was an excellent decision as Ron has stepped up and is doing a great Job for us.

What a great find!!! Michele came to us from the restaurant industry and in hopes of making a change, came into our office for an interview in February of 2017. Her quiet demeanor made me a little skeptical but Lisa saw a valuable candidate and wanted to add her to the team. Boy was I glad I listened to my operations manager! Michele has gone on to become our office manager assuming many responsibilities including bossing the boss around sometimes ☺

Calinda joined our team in July of 2020. We were so grateful to have her come in for an interview and ultimately accept a position with us in the midst of this crazy year (spring 2020). Being deemed an essential service through the State while many places were sadly closing their doors we were working to keep everyone’s Propane service up and running. When you call us, Calinda is the first voice you hear. We find her to be very pleasant on the phone; we hope you do as well.

Josh has brought Jimmy’s quick wit and winning smile back to proctor Gas. His desire to follow in his father’s footsteps through hard work and customer care gives us hope that the legacy will live on. Josh started work from an early age mowing lawns and painting tanks as it was always our plan to teach our son a good work ethic. He joined the team full time in 2012 and we’re grateful to have him. Our hope is he will follow his father’s path and become the new face of Proctor Gas one day. Keep an eye on him – we all do ☺

Brian came to join us on 9/5/17 and I couldn’t be more thrilled! He started out as a propane delivery driver for us and quickly moved into service. Brian has proven himself to be a very capably technician and we hope to be able to use his talents for diagnostic analysis through many aspects of the company as we move forward into the future.

Last, but certainly not least is our young buck, Elijah. Elijah came to work for us while he was still in High School, working part time in the summer and over school breaks. He graduated from Mill River this past spring (2020) and has worked for us full time since. He has his sights set on a military career and although we honor and appreciate our armed services, selfishly we hope he changes his mind. He has been an exemplary team member and we would hate to lose him. With that said – he will have our utmost respect and appreciation should he decide to serve.

Shannon joined Proctor Gas in 1990 as the youngest employee at the time, after convincing Jimmy he was worth hiring in spite of his age. 30 years later and lots of training and service calls under his belt, Shannon has become an intricate member of the Proctor Gas service and advisory team. His loyalty to us over the years has been one of our greatest blessings.
